MANGAT-SINGH

Mangat regained his confidence

An example of this kind of exclusion is 69-year-old Mangat Singh, who failed to get a job after losing his eye sight. Mangat from village Ratoli Meerut in North India went through hardship due to loss of vision in his eye, two years ago, and had to give up work as a labourer and farmer. The pressure to provide support his family was immense. The deteriorating vision of his eye added on to his problem. Mangat Singh with growing amount of problems in his life went through acute depression due to financial crisis.

Mangat was fortunate enough that one of his fellow friends was supportive to him and brought him to the eye camp organized by ICARE. Where he was diagnosed having cataract and advised for surgery. He shared his financial crisis with the counselor to which the counselor told that the surgery would be done free of cost. Things were looking brighter for Mangat and his family, when they got to know about the free treatment; he happily boarded the ambulance with the rest of the patients.

At the base hospital, he was examined thoroughly, next day he was operated upon the left eye to get the cataract treated. He realized that without vision life was dark and bleak. After surgery with vision restored he feels that all his problems are over.

Now Mangat is planning to put more efforts in the field with no difficulty and without asking anyone to help him financially. He is very thankful to the entire team of RMS and ICARE for restoring his lost vision.
