Neha was only twelve years old when she lost her father in an accident. Now 16, she lives with her mother Anita Devi and two younger siblings. Anita Devi supports the family as a tailor, earning around INR 6,000 per month. The family barely manages to make. When she was in grade 9th, her class teacher complained about her poor performance in studies to her mother. Neha was finding it extremely difficult to read the blackboard in school, and writing in dim light was a challenge. She had avoided telling her mother knowing she would struggle to find money for treatment.

Fortunately, ICARE Eye Hospital was having an eye screening for the people in her slum. Without informing her mother she visited the eye screening organized by ICARE. She was identified to be having cataract in the right eye, needing immediate surgery for restoration of vision.

Neha’s mother was contacted and counseled. She was informed that the cataract surgery with IOL implant would be performed at ICARE free of cost which brought tears of gratitude in her eyes.

Neha was brought to ICARE Hospital and a thorough examination was done. She was successfully operated and she gained good post- operative.

Today, Neha is able to read and write without difficulty. She is preparing for her examinations and has regained confidence that she will do well in her studies and have a bright future. She dreams of getting a job so that she can support her mother and siblings.
