Ramjan, is a 60 years old landless farmer from Village Nuh, District Ujeena, State Haryana. He has no land and works as a farm hand with a rich land owner. He lives all alone as his wife died of high fever a couple of years back. He had no money for her treatment and watched helplessly as she breathed her last. He has no children either and no family members to help him in his time of need. He gets a meager pension from the State Government and earns roughly 60 to 65 rupees daily working in the farm. He does all the house work himself including washing clothes, sweeping the house and cooking. Life for him went on in this manner without any hope for betterment.

To add to his woes, he noticed that he was finding it difficult to see clearly specially in the evenings from the left eye. Though there was electricity in his village he had no money to pay for a connection. With no help he could barely look after his needs. He went to the Gram Pradhan and told him about his difficulties. He directed Ramjan to the ICARE Vision Center opened in the Firozput Namak village close by. He went there and was identified to have cataract and was told that he would be transported to the ICARE Eye Hospital at Noida and treated free of cost. He was operated on and to his great joy he found that he could see clearly when the bandage was removed the next day. He was sent back home full of confidence and ready to pick-up the threads of life once again and meet whatever challenges lay ahead.
